PD Workshop: Fostering Learning to Achieve Lesson Aims in Reading and Listening

Abstract:

As SFL curriculum is developed around content-based instruction, it is of utmost importance to ensure and observe evidence of learner understanding of content in both written and spoken texts to achieve our lesson aims. In order to foster deeper learning, which will also prepare our students to be better equipped for an academic environment and to become successful global citizens, there are many strategies and ways to benefit from. Yet, in this interactive session, we will focus on three of them which will guide the instructors to meet the expectations of the institution: ensuring a certain level of challenge, encouraging an environment of dialogic talk and checking understanding and learning.
